Spend the Night in an Elephant Watching Tree House in the Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary.

This is one of the best opportunities to view wild elephants in Thailand. The safest way of seeing the elephants in their natural environment is from one of our tree houses in the park. Elephants come here regularly to eat sugar cane provided by monks from the nearby forest temple who built the tree-houses. The food is provided to discourage the elephants from wandering into surrounding farmland in the dry season and destroying crops and endangering people and property. You can make a contribution for the elephant food.

The elephants are mostly active in the evenings and at night, so it is recommended that you stay in the tree house overnight to have the best chance of spotting them. A guide and monks from the local temple will take you there and back. You will arrive by car at the forest temple and take a short walk to the tree houses.

The tree houses are large enough to sleep up to 6 people and are truly “tree houses” so be prepared to “rough it” a little. . Sleeping bags, food and water can be provided at a reasonable price.

The best time of year for viewing the elephants is January through April.
